The home where I stay on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia has a koi pond. I’ve watched them grow since they were little fry, and like any other pet, they feel part of the family. This past year, I had more opportunity to observe them as they started coming out of their hibernation-like state from the Winter season. Getting used to the world once again, their shyness came with frantic splashing as they snatched food and dashed back into hiding. Playing with variations of natural light provided different opportunities to capture images both naturalistic and abstract.

After having spent many hours over several months capturing photos of the koi, I’m proud of the collection assembled.
